MUSIC AS MAGIC
As a child, singing was a sacred act for me. I often sang in a nonsense language, and I never wanted anyone to hear me because it felt holy and special. Now that I am older, I feel called to share what has been so transformational for me. Music, especially improvisation, has always brought me back into presence—I see it as a powerful tool for getting out of time and into the eternity of present existence. For this reason, my music has often been described as timeless. I hope to enchant you, awaken you, revive you to the magic of being alive. I hope my music brings you more in touch with your own spirit and the beautiful world around you; that it relaxes and nourishes your mind and body, and leaves you with vibrations of beauty resounding through you. I hope it is a massage for your soul and you feel your own freeness of being in listening to it.
In order to create soundscapes within my storytelling, a feeling of place within the song, I like to incorporate nature sounds into my music, from birds to wind to sea. As a classically-trained violinist, I also like to utilize the romantic nature of strings (violin, cello, bass). The freedom and other-worldly effect of synthesizers and samples adds to the ethereal dimension of my music. My voice appears in this environment as a voyager, as if like a seal jumping over and under waves in the sea…
